WITN IMPACT : Velumani OUT, Krishnamurthys DUMPED & Ramadoss IN

PMK Founder Ramadoss IN

We said it first.  In our articles Dr. Ramadoss to be arrested in a murder case & Doctor’s Kolaveri... Whispers in Tamil Nadu had reported  in detail on how luck is running out for Doctor Ramadoss, founder and Chief of Pattali Makkal Katchi, and how the premier investigative agency CBI is decoding Doctor's Kolaveri plan. On Wednesday the CBI sleuths arrested Ramadoss’s brother Seeni Gounder @ Srinivasan, who is now an active Congress member and former PMK Headquarters Secretary N.M.Karunanidhi.

Doctor who is always kept at an arm’s length by both the Dravidian parties is now pushed to a corner and waiting for the cops to show up his doorsteps anytime.  While the 2009 Parliamentary elections saw the PMK’s vote bank tumbling, the 2011 assembly elections broke the myth that PMK is inevitable in Tamil Nadu politics.  Without any bargaining power and strong voter base the balloon is now punctured for Dr. Ramadoss, and now they are considered to be a political orphan in Tamil Nadu's political landscape.  But Dr. Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss is still hoping for a miracle and desperate attempts are still underway to wriggle out of the Murder case by hook or crook.

As had been reported by us earlier, the CBI has gathered clinching evidence of the involvement of Doctor Ayya and his family members in the murder of Muruganandam and an attempt to murder C.Ve.Shanmugam during the election campaign of 2006. So far loads of documents relating to this case were lying at the Tindivanam sessions court - what Dr.Ayya considered as a cold storage. But just hours before the arrest of Srinivasan and Karunanidhi these documents which were kept in 3 iron trunks were shifted to Chengelpet sessions court amid tight security. As soon as this information reached Dr. Ayya he developed cold feet and was visibly tense. Perhaps this was a clear indication for the PMK camp that things were moving to its next stage. After, hours of interrogation both Srinivasan and Karunanidhi were arrested and remanded. Very soon, the CBI would call doctor Ayya for interrogation and is likely to take him into custody...and Dr Ramadoss is all set land behind bars.

After the cat is out of the bag, it will be very unfair on the part of CBI, if they do not probe the sabotage angle...as tampering with evidence is also another charge that should be slapped against Dr. Ramadoss and his group of contract killers.

Whispers doing rounds in IPS circles is that the CBI is also probing how the murder case probe was systematically sabotaged by the PMK founder with the help of senior cops in Tamil Nadu police.  S.R.Jangid, who was Inspector General of Police North Zone and Sanjay Arora, who was the then DIG, Villupuram are likely to be interrogated by CBI as to why the names of Dr. Ramadoss, Anbumani Ramadoss, Parasuram, doctor’s son-in-law were removed in the first Case Diary within a week of registration of the FIR.  The first case diary is the crucial document which records the initial progress made in the investigation.

And guess what, if the CBI needs any help in getting crucial documents...there is one man who is more than willing to help. Its none other than the present DIG of Villipuram district - Pon. Manickvel. The entire Khakhi department is aware of the ongoing rivalry between S R Jangid and Pon.Manickvel. Meanwhile, the state intelligence is also closely monitoring all the developments regarding the case and it is almost certain that Dr. Ramadoss is in neck deep trouble.

On one hand Doctor’s hectic parleys with the DMK chief to come out in support of him has proved to be futile. Despite several attempts by PMK to garner support, the grand old man is tight lipped, as the DMK is afraid that if anything is said against the CBI, then it will indirectly reflect in the 2G case and the CBI has become albatross around Kanimozhi's neck. To add insult to doctor's injury, the state government is also gearing up to arrest Ramadoss. Maya krishnan, a resident of Olliyampalayam village who works in the college of Vanniyar Trust has filed a complaint, that on the instigation of Doctor Ramadoss he was attacked by the Vanniyar  Trust’s Director Hari Narayanan.

PMK leader G.K.Mani and advocate K.Balu, met the DGP on Thursday evening and gave a complaint that the case registered against Dr. Ramadoss is a politically motivated one. Whispers doing rounds in PMK circles is that both Ramadoss and Anbumani Ramadoss are keen on addressing public meetings so that they can whip up emotions among the Vanniyar community. Ramadoss hopes that it will help him in putting up a stiff fight against the CBI during his arrest. Will Ramadoss be able to cock and snook at the CBI ? Remains to be seen.

Velu 'Money' OUT

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha on Thursday dropped S.P. Velumani from the cabinet.  Whispers in Tamil Nadu had earlier reported about the nefarious activities of S.P.Velumani in the article
Minister Velu 'Money's' golden touch which gave you the inside information about his newly owned jewellery shop AVR Swarna Mahal.  Velumani, who was shifted from the Industries portfolio and accommodated in the cabinet with Revenue portfolio only last week...was happy and thought that he was the cat's whiskers. But he was unaware of the fact that his sins were probed by the state intelligence which has already submitted a detailed report to the Chief Minister. And as he was all set for yet another 'Revenue' ride, his calculations went miserably wrong as he was shown the door.

Krishnamurthy - I 'DUMPED'

Whispers in Tamil Nadu was the first one to report on the collection spree by Commercial Taxes Minister Agri SS Krishnamoorthy as early as 15 October 2011 in the article Is Amma aware of the Collection Spree ?

This was published even before the MM cartel were expelled by Jayalalitha. We had reported that this collection spree was underway upon the orders of the Queen of deceit Sasikala. Sasikala was quite powerful at that time and both her loyalists S.P.Velumani and Agri SS Krishnamoorthy were spared the axe.  In the cabinet rejig last week, Commercial Taxes portfolio was withdrawn from Krishnamoorthy and he was given School Education portfolio. Now, Jayalalitha has dropped Agri SS.Krishnamoorthy from the cabinet and his portfolio of School Education is given to N.R.Sivapathy. Whispers doing rounds in the corridors of Fort St George is that Agri Krishnamurthy was living high off the hog and now his fortunes could crumble as his art of collecting 'commercial tax' is all set to land him in deep trouble.

Krishnamurthy - II 'DUMPED'

After one Krishnamurthy, it was time for the other Krishnamurthy, who is fondly called as Horticulture Krishnamurthy. He was booted out of the AIADMK along with Sundaravadanam, Santhanalakshmi, and Natarajan's sister Vaijayanthi MLA.

In fact, it was Whispers in Tamil Nadu  that was first one to expose the murky land deal that took place upon Sasikala's orders Horticulture Krishnamurthy in the article The Agri (ugly) war.

DMK moles in the dock

Whispers in Tamil Nadu exposed  about the intelligence network built by the DMK in the AIADMK regime and named their spies in the article DMK’s moles in the Government.

This article seems to have rattled the various power centers at Fort St George, as crucial information about the day-to-day functioning of the government is reaching its arch rival. Following Whispers in Tamil Nadu expose, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister  Jayalalitha, had given curt instruction that all the 27 drivers and PAs who were appointed by the three Under Secretaries in Public Department – Vasanthy, Periyanayaki and Ambalavanan should be shunted out immediately. Also Whispers doing rounds in Fort St George circles is that the trio is also likely to face probe by intelligence officials in the coming days.

DMK’s moles in the Government !

Ever since the AIADMK came to power, the DMK has been pushed to a corner...without any information on the inner happenings in the corridors of power – Fort St. George. But the DMK being a party in power for quite a long time, knows the importance of inside information.  Now whispers doing rounds in the corridors of Fort St George is that the DMK have planted its moles in key places of the administration which ensures steady flow of crucial information relating to the day-to-day affairs of the Government.

The PAs and drivers are a perennial source of information in any government. Sources say DMK has planted their men in key positions who appoint PAs and drivers. Whispers doing rounds is 3 under secretaries namely Vasanthy, Periyanayagi and Ambalavanan in Tamil Nadu government's public department are suspected to have helped the Opposition DMK to spy on the activities of the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK government.  The treacherous trio appear to be the deciding authorities on the appointment of all of personal assistants and drivers to ministers.  The Public Department in Secretariat looks after the appointments of PAs and Drivers to Ministers.

The trio who hold key positions in the Public Department have chosen personal assistants and drivers who are loyal to them so that they can extract government information instantly and pass it on to their political masters. The three officials have reportedly helped Anna Arivalyam, the DMK headquarters to get crucial information on the AIADMK regime's moves, much before it reached either the state intelligence network or the media.

The latest buzz is that Vasanthy has recommended Surulivelrajan who was personal assistant to former DMK minister Ubaiyadullah and now efforts are on to tag him along with Agri S.S. Krishnamurthy, Commercial Taxes minister.   The Public Department official Vasanthy has close ties with DMK’s women’s wing.  Secretariat employees are quite surprised about the continuance of these spies working right under the nose of Jayalalitha.

Minister Velu 'Money's' golden touch

S.P.Velumani, is the Minister for Industries in the AIADMK government. It is a well known fact that Velumani is one of the nominees of the MM cartel in Amma's cabinet.  Velumani who hails from the Kongu belt was given the key portfolio of Industries, which is considered as gold mine in administrative circles. Indeed S.P.Velumani appears to have hit a pot of gold in this portfolio.

Whispers doing rounds is that Velumani’s @ Velu ‘money’ is on a collection spree right from the word ‘go’.   Many of the granite quarry owners were threatened to cough up sizeable sums of money under the guise of payment to MM cartel. The buzz in entire Fort St George is that by now Velumani must have amassed a sum of Rs.400 crores, for himself.

Whispers doing rounds in IAS circles is that the 400 crore rupees has been collected  mainly from the granite lobby and iron scrap lobby, most of whom owe their allegiance to the DMK.  Particularly, the biggest iron scrap business is run by Anand, who is reported to be the benami of M.K.Tamilarasu, son of DMK chief M.Karunanidhi.  Since money doesn’t have colour or party affiliation, sources say Velumani had collected a sizeable amount from Anand.

Velumani had found gold as the right investment for his 'earnings' and is reported to have started a jewellery with three branches in Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruppur in the name and style of “AVR Swarna Mahal”.  The jewellery which was started six months back – after Velumani became Industries Minister is on an advertisement spree and is giving a tough fight to traditional jewel traders.  The jewellery is reported to be started by Velumani and his benamis. But what does AVR stands for...here is the answer - A for Anbu, V for Velumani and R for Radhakrishnan.

During the impending cabinet re-shuffle, Velumani is certain to face the axe, say poes garden insiders.   But, whether amma would be satisfied with sacking him or will the DVAC go behind Velumani remains to be seen.

M K Stalin dumps Jinnah

Hasan Mohammed Ali Jinnah was M K Stalin's close confidant, some call him as a shadow of M K Stalin. In fact M K Stalin who was fearing a close contest in his Thousand Lights constituency replaced Jinnah as his nominee to contest from Thousand lights. But now Jinnah's long honeymoon has almost come to an end.

With M K Stalin calling the shots in the DMK youth wing by fixing age limit for party posts, Jinnah fears that very soon his he will be stripped of from his post of deputy secretary. By the way a point to be noted is that M K Stalin who is 59 years old is still the Secretary of the DMK youth wing, from the eighties and he still continues to be youth icon for the DMK.

But what is the reason for their split..? A question doing rounds in DMK circles...some say Jinnah being an advocate, and a former additional public prosecutor mishandled his cases...but whispers doing rounds in top DMK leadership is that Jinnah, did not help M K Stalin in his coup attempt to take control of Kalaignar TV. M K Stalin wanted one of his trusted lieutenant to be inducted into the Kalaignar TV board of directors before Kanimozhi is out on bail, so his first choice was Jinnah. But sensing trouble and danger Jinnah gave a slip and that seems to have angered M K Stalin and as a result Jinnah is completely sidelined.

Sad Sangamam

Its that time of the year when all bandits come together to organize Chennai Sangaman. A show that was carefully crafted to boost Kanimozhi's popularity, but all hell broke loose due to the 2G scam...and from then onwards it was Tihar sangaman and now it has become Sad sangamam. Recently, the organizers and some folk artists met Kanimozhi to greet her on the occasion of Pongal which turned out to be an emotional reunion.

A helpless Kanimozhi was at loss for words, but she made some alternative arrangements this time and it was DK leader Veeramani who came in for Kani's rescue. Veeramani promised that his partymen will hire local folk artists for their Pongal celebrations. At last in some way Veeramani has helped is the joke doing rounds in M K Stalin's circles.

Karuna's snub to Nakkeeran

When bi-weekly Nakkeeran came under attack from the AIADMK party workers for its controversial 'beef eating' article on TN Chief Minister, its editor Nakkeeran Gopal and Associate editor Kamaraj were constantly on phone asking for help..several senior journalists received calls asking to issue an statement saying its an attack on freedom of press.

But Nakkeeran insiders say Nakkeeran Gopal and Kamaraj were also engaged in convincing DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi who was unhappy with the news.   Gopal and Kamaraj had contacted Karunanidhi and pleaded that our office is under attack and no official is picking up their call. To their surprise Karunanidhi too had asked the same question, which rest of the world asked them..why did you publish such a provocative article...? Sources in Gopalapuram say Karunanidhi scolded both the veteran journalists (!!!!) as he was afraid that his name would be dragged into the entire controversy. Also Karunanidhi refused to issue a statement but as Gopal and Kamaraj were pleading he had no other choice but to release a short statement. Gopalapuram sources say while speaking to Karunanidhi both Nakkeeran Gopal and Kamaraj admitted that their motive was to publish this news and provoke Jaya so that they can boosts their circulation...but since it was an unprecedented reaction Gopal admitted that it was a wrong decision.

Doctor's 'KOLAVERI'

Whispers in Tamil Nadu first reported about PMK Founder Dr Ramadoss getting arrested in connection with a murder case. This is what Whispers in Tamil Nadu first published : Dr.Ramadoss to be arrested in murder case...as early as on 7th of November 2011.

While it was everyone’s expectation that  CBI investigation would go in the right lines, it appears that Dr.Ramadoss, a suave political operator is manipulating the CBI and keeping the CBI under his thumb.

Whispers doing the rounds is that  Doctor Ramadoss, the perennial chameleon of Tamil Nadu politics is operating the CBI with surgical precision.

THE 'KOLAVERI' PLAN

During May 2006, a group of people made an attempt on the life of the then AIADMK candidate and persent Minister C.Ve.Shanmugam, while C Ve Shanmugam was lucky but Muruganandham, a close relative of Shanmugam was hacked to death.

Immediately after the incident C.Ve.Shanmugam filed a complaint in which he had named Doctor Ramadoss, his wife Saraswathy Ramadoss, his son Anbumani Ramadoss and others had made an attempt to kill him and during the attempt his brother-in-law  Muruganandham was killed. Since it was election time, the police had no other option to act fairly and an FIR was registered against Dr.Ramadoss, his son Anbumani, his brother Srinivasan and others.

The FIR registered by the police in Cr. No. 164/2006 says that “Dr.Ramadoss, Founder Leader of PMK, Mr.Srinivasan, brother of Dr.Ramadoss, Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss, the then Union Minister and son of Dr.Ramadoss and Dr.Parasuram, son-in-law of Dr.Ramadoss conspired to murder the complainant and at their instance, the group led by Mr.N.R.Raghu and Mr.N.M.Karunanidhi attacked the petitioner and others, who were sitting in front of the house of the complainant, resulting in the death of Muruganandham.

Dr.Ramadoss, Founder Leader of PMK and Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss, the then Union Minister and son of Dr.Ramadoss, spoke during the Election Campaign that the petitioner should be finished off. As per the FIR, the attack was led by N.R.Raghu, who belongs to PMK and who is the sister's son of Dr.Ramadoss and Mr.N.M.Karunanidhi, the rival candidate, who contested against the C Ve Shanmugam in Tindivanam Constituency, as PMK candidate, who is also related to Dr.Ramadoss. They were accompanied by a group of about 15 members, with deadly weapons. It is further alleged that before the said incident, one Mr.Preethiban, grand son of Dr.Ramadoss, came in a Red Colour Ford Car and on his information about the availability of the petitioner, the killer group reached the spot and attempted to kill C Ve Shanmugam and others.

The first seven accused as per the original FIR are, Dr.Ramadoss, Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss, (son) Srinivasan, (brother) Dr.Parasuraman, (son-in-law) N.R.Raghu, (close relative) N.M.Karunanidhi (close relative) and Preethiban (grand son).

The murder case saw its first twist when the 2006 Assembly election results were out.  The DMK came to power and being an important ally in the alliance, Ramadoss had the last laugh. The fence sitter Ramadoss immediately pulled all his strings with the DMK chief Karunanidhi to sabotage the murder investigation.

Sources tell whispers in Tamil Nadu that in the first week following the DMK’s capturing power, the then IG North Zone Jangid modified the FIR that resulted in removal of the names of Ramadoss, his brother and his son from the FIR, This was carefully executed before Jangid's transfer to Chennai City Police as Additional Commissioner. It is pertinent to note that on 9 May 2006, Karunanidhi condemned the Tamil Nadu police for filing FIR against Ramadoss and his son.

Then investigation of the murder case went through a maze of legal hurdles – courtesy Doctor Ramadoss.

The police, on the instructions of DMK Chief Karunanidhi continuously sabotaged the investigation left, right and Center and made proxy accused to surrender.

DR AYYA'S BITTER PILL TO THE CBI

Following the transfer of investigation to CBI, Dr. Ramadoss developed a cold feed and as expected many new facts have emerged. The CBI team, which stayed in Veeranam Guest House at Tindivanam, conducted meticulous investigation in the case. But they had limited information that the entire CBI team and their investigation was under surveillance. The witnesses and officials who were staying in the Veeranam Guest House, used to have breakfast, lunch and dinner in two nearby hotels named Amaravathy Hotel and Annachi Mess. Whispers doing rounds is that Dr.Ramadoss, had deputed one of his trusted lieutenant K.Balu, an Advocate of Madras High Court to monitor the CBI closely. K Balu who was keeping a tab on the CBI officials had planted his men in both these hotels and has been talking to witnesses and gathering information on the progress made by the CBI.

THE CBI INVESTIGATION

The CBI team which took this case as a challenge wanted to crack this case at the earliest and stumbled upon crucial evidences linking Dr.Ramadoss  and his family with this murder. According to sources the CBI Investigation revealed that C.Ve.Shanmugam, who had been making provocative speeches against Dr.Ramadoss and his family members during the election campaign in 2006 was bent upon wooing away the vanniyar votes from PMK.   During the feverish election campaign some AIADMK workers had tried to attack Dr.Parasuraman, son-in-law of Ramadoss during the first week of May 2006.  On the next day, another group tried to attack Raghu, a close relative of Ramadoss.  Immediately after the attack, Raghu went to Thailapuram garden, met Ramadoss and narrated his tale of woes.  At that time, Saraswathi Ramadoss, wife of Ramadoss came there and shouted at Raghu and others.  Saraswathi had shouted “Are you people eunuchs ?  Shanmugam is also a vanniyar and you are also a vanniyar ? Are you not ashamed to come and complain like this like an eunuch ?” Ramadoss who was present at that time had reportedly instructed Raghu to teach C.Ve.Shanmugam a fitting lesson.

Raghu, Ramadoss’s daughter Srikanthini’s husband Dr.Parasuraman had reportedly met Dhanaraj, Ramadoss’s relative and a former MP to hire contract killers to finish off C.Ve.Shanmugam which was executed the same week, say Thailapuram sources. The hired goons numbering eight, met Dr.Ramadoss at his residence before and after the attack. Only with the active direction of Dr.Ramadoss, the murderous attack took place.  The eight people, including Gopi, Ilan chezhiyan, Natarajan and Panneerselvam were arrested by the CBI last Saturday.

CBI had also unearthed that the police had made five fake accused to surrender in the case and had also tampered with evidence.  In the complaint itself, Shanmugam had mentioned that Preethiban, the grand son of Dr.Ramadoss and son of Dr.Parasuram came in Red Colour Ford Car bearing registration No. TN-51-1155. But the police which investigated the case had concluded that there was no red colour Ford car with registration number starting with TN-51.   In their attempt to fix false accused in this case, Ramadoss had sought the help of M.Jayaraman a Chennai based PMK functionary, to give his Ford car for a few months.

Jayaraman

Jayaraman, who was unaware of doctor’s ulterior motives, gave his car and the car was handed over to the police as the vehicle which was used to commit the murder. Getting wind of Doctor’s treachery to implicate him in a murder case, Jayaraman confronted Ramadoss and demanded his car back. But doctor asked him to get another Ford car to return the car which was handed over to the police. Jayaraman who was ambitious to get an MLA ticket, arranged for another car and his own car was returned. This Jayaraman was rewarded by Doctor Ayya with a PMK ticket to contest in the 2011 Assembly elections in the Velacherry constituency in Chennai.

CBI THE SAVIOUR?

Despite mounting evidence to nail Doctor Ramadoss, the CBI appears to be in a deep slumber. After through investigations and breakthrough the CBI appears to be very reluctant to even examine Ramadoss, leave alone arrest. Whispers doing rounds in AIADMK circles is that for more than a month, the CBI is still sitting on the mounting evidence and is merrily watching Ramadoss’s efforts to scuttle the investigation.

K.Balu with Ramadoss

Whispers doing rounds in legal circles is that K.Balu, Ramadoss’s lieutenant had apprised his boss about the developments and Doctor has planned an operation which would stun the CBI.   Getting wind of the news about noose tightening around him, Ramadoss is contemplating to file an appeal in the Madras High Court against the orders of a single judge transferring the investigation to CBI.   Ramadoss a shrewd politician is aware that filing an appeal himself would dent his image politically and had sent Balu as an emissary to meet his brother Srinivasan @ Seeni Kounder, who is also an accused in this case to file the appeal.

But Srinivasan who was back stabbed by Ramadoss in a business venture, is not yielding.  The feud between Seeni Kounder and Ramadoss started in getting a bus route between Pondicherry and Marakkanam.   Seeni Kounder’s son Chandrasekaran had purchased the bus route from KVN Bus Services.  This irritated Dr.Parasuraman, Ramadoss’s son-in-law who abducted the bus and the matter went to Ramadoss for arbitration.   Ramadoss sided with his son in law and ditched his own brother.  An annoyed Seeni Kounder joined Congress with his supporters.  Keeping his brother’s treacherous attitude, Seeni Kounder refused to budge instead has opted to file a petition to speed up the CBI investigations.

An undeterred Ramadoss, has  approached another person named in the FIR to file the appeal in the High Court. Whispers doing rounds in High Court circles is that   Ramadoss’s lieutenant K.Balu is now in touch with retired Madras High Court Judges of Vanniyar community  - Kulasekaran and Thanikachalam to make back door manoeuvring in the appeal.

Meanwhile, the CBI appears to be waiting or rather keeping its fingers crossed for Doctor Ramadoss to get a stay order for its investigation.   The fact that the CBI had not examined Ramadoss, Anbumani, Saraswathi Ramadoss, Dhanaraj, so far is casting doubts on the country's premier agency’s integrity.  A valid and convincing theory that is doing the rounds that the CBI may be dragging its feet to protect certain senior police officers who may face trouble if the investigation goes in the right direction, an argument that cannot be ruled out.

Its widely said that 'an apple a day keeps doctors away' but in case of Tamil Nadu's most cunning politician - Ramadoss, it appears that he has mastered the art of 'a bitter pill a day keeps trouble (CBI) away'....Whether law will catch up with Doctor Ayya for his sins and ask him the question -Dr Ayya Why this Kolaveri? or doctor’s bitter pill for the CBI will keep them away forever, remains to be seen.

Jaya walks into MM cartel’s trap

It appears that Jayalalitha had walked straight into the well laid trap of the MM cartel via Nakkeeran.

"Maattu Kari Saapidum Maami Naan" (I am a Brahmin woman who eats beef) was the title of the write-up, featured as the cover story of the Nakkheeran that triggered unrest at all levels. The article written under the pseudonym ‘Omar Mukthar’ narrates Jayalalitha discussing with a group of people regarding the aftermath of expulsion of the MM cartel and the article goes on to narrate, in Jaya’s words how she was termed by MGR that ‘Jaya cannot be considered as a Brahmin and timid, since she had cooked special beef from Spencer’s’.

This article infuriated  the AIADMK cadres and the cadres were up in arms against Nakkeeran magazine and staged violent protests against the magazine on last week. The police who were present at the scene were helpless...however, they contained the agitators and arrested them.  But AIADMK cadres continued to come in batches and the agitations continued till the evening. Whispers doing rounds is that the cover story of Nakkeeran appears to be a well laid trap by MM cartel - reason to bait Jayalalitha who continues to hunt MM cartel loyalists in the government and the party.

Ever since the expulsion of the Sasikala and Co from the party and Poes Garden, on 19 December. Jayalalitha's focus has only been on to identify MM cartel loyalists and weeding them out.    The last nail in MM cartel’s coffin was the transfer of 24 Personal Security Officers of Ministers who were the part of the intelligence network of the MM cartel.    With the speed in which Amma is going, the second-in-command of MM cartel, M.Natarajan feared that MM cartel would be decimated beyond recognition.    It was Natarajan who hatched a conspiracy along with Kamaraj to publish such a story, which would naturally invite violent reactions and Jaya's attention will be diverted from them.

Kamaraj and M.Natarajan had been very close since time immemorial. Whispers doing rounds in AIADMK party circles is that Natarajan, is Kamaraj’s source for inside information in AIADMK.   In fact, Natarajan had given Nakkeeran some rare photographs of Sasikala and Jayalalitha together in Kodanadu.   Nakkeeran which had covered elaborately on the expulsion of MM cartel did a volte face.  In its December 31-January 3 dated issue, Nakkeeran did a story that Panneerselvam, the former Officer on Special Duty in Program Implementation department was a victim of Brahminical conspiracy.   The story went on to say that Jayalalitha was surrounded by a group of Brahmin officers like Venkatramanan, Sarangi, etc. and they are influencing the decisions of Jayalalitha.   Panneerselvam, the retired bureaucrat on special duty was described by Nakkeeran as the non-brahmin Messiah, who was there to protect Tamil Nadu from the clutches of Brahmins !!!!.  The story went on to mention that the Brahmin lobby had carefully designed a plot and had eliminated Panneerselvam by attributing false allegations against him.

Around a month back, Nakkeeran published another news item that Pon.Manickavel the then DIG Intelligence was conducting the intelligence wing in a proficient manner and the entire IPS officers are watching in awe the way Pon.Manickavel operates.  This news item in Nakkeeran surprised many as Nakkeeran had always published damaging items on Pon.Manickavel in the past.
The aim of the conspiracy between Nakkeeran and the MM cartel is to divert the attention of Jayalalitha who is on a witch-hunt against MM cartel.  The result – More than successful.  Jayalalitha, who became furious following the news item is closely watching the developments as she had given a go ahead to her partymen to file any sort of complaints against Nakkeeran magazine.
The conspiracy suggestion was more than welcomed by Nakkeeran as the magazine found this as an opportunity too boost the its sagging sales, which is reported to be between 40,000 to 50,000.    It is a win-win situation for Nakkeeran...  On the one hand it would get the desired publicity and on the other hand, they can prove a point that Jayalalitha is always vindictive on Nakkeeran.

On the day the defamatory story was published, AIADMK workers throughout Tamil Nadu bought away all copies of Nakkeeran, available in the stands and burnt it.

With the AIADMK cadres still up in arms against the Nakkeeran magazine and filing a slew of complaints against Kamaraj and Gopal the battle has now shifted to Courts.  The Nakkeeran management has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking restoration of water connection, which was severed following Saturday’s story. But the Chennai city police is having sleepless nights as pressure is mounting on them to arrest Nakkeeran Gopal and others.

With mediamen and public continue to debate about the story of Nakkeeran and the government’s reaction, it is Kamaraj and Nakkeeran Gopal who had the last laugh.
Masanamuthu IPS
However, the MM cartel’s ploy appear to have misfired.   The transfer and postings of IPS officers issued on Wednesday evening is a clear indication that Jayalalitha is determined to weed out MM cartel’s agents.   Masanamuthu, Sokkalingam who were known nominees of MM cartel were shifted out to insignificant posts.  Sokkalingam had secured the posting of IG Central Zone with the blessings of Diwakaran.   Sources tell whispers that Sokkalingam gave three choices for his postings to Diwakaran.  IG, Central Zone, Joint Director Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (!!!) and IG, Crime Branch CID.

Radhakrishnan, the king maker

The much awaited transfers and postings of IPS officer has come... after creating a huge anxiety among police officials in the State. The postings issued on Friday night has come as a surprise to many.   The orders issued by the Home Secretary shuffling 19 IPS officers in the State and many of the postings appear to be a major surprise.

Xavier Dhanaraj, has been posted as SP, Thiruvarur in the place of Annadurai.  The shifting of Annadurai is attributed to his closeness to Diwakaran a key member of MM Cartel.  K.N.Sathyamurthy, who was brought in as DIG Intelligence, with the blessings of MM cartel through former ADGP intelligence T Rajenderan. He was shifted out from the post following the rift with former DIG Intelligence Pon.Manickavel. Whispers doing rounds in the DGP office circles is that Sathyamurthy who was unhappy with his posting in Madurai had approached K.Radhakrishnan, present ADGP, Civil Supplies CID, which appears to have yielded desired results.  Sathyamurthy has been posted as Joint Commissioner Headquarters.

V.A.Ravikumar, who was initially handling Thanjavur Range was shifted out following his close nexus with the MM cartel and whispers doing rounds in the Thanjavur AIADMK circles is that he was shifted out because of mishandling the arrest of Poondi Kalaivanan.  Following his shift to Armed Police – which is considered as a punishment posting in the department, whispers doing rounds is that he too had approached Radhakrishnan which has made him the Joint Commissioner Traffic South in Chennai.

M.Ramasubramani, who was wielding tremendous clout in the DMK regime was one of the officers indicted by the Madras High Court for the February 19th attack on advocates, along with K.Radhakrishnan.  His propinquity with the DMK regime saw his fortunes at a low and was posted as DIG, Armed Police in Trichy. Now he has bounced back and is posted as DIG, Ramanathapuram Range – courtesy K.Radhakrishnan.

The posting of Aziammal and S.Lakshmi to Chennai from Madurai and Kanniyakumari, respectively is also attributed to K.Radhakrishnan.   Aziammal is very close to K.Radhakrishnan during her tenure in DVAC and S.Lakshmi, became an acquaintance of Radhakrishnan during her stint in Civil Supplies CID. Both Lakshmi and Aziammal are brought back to Chennai with the blessings and active lobbying by Radhakrishnan is the whispers doing rounds among their batch mates.

How did Radhakrishnan managed to play his cards so perfectly? Whispers doing rounds in the corridors of Fort St George is that, the magic wand in Radhakrishnan’s hand is nothing but his bonhomie with Rameshram Mishra, the Home Secretary.   Sources say, through a contact in business circles, Radhakrishnan became very close to Rameshram Mishra and had suggested these names for the postings. Radhakrishnan, who was scared of his fortunes following the disaster that struck the MM cartel found this business contact a blessing in distress and had made the present Home Secretary, pliant to his wishes.

Even in the successive postings, Radhakrishnan’s role would be very significant, say sources in Khaki circles.   As we have reported earier, The Chief Minister has no other options but to choose from the same pack of cards.  K.Radhakrishnan’s  co-brother Dr.Dhanapal's is a practising doctor in London. The number two of the MM cartel - M.Natarajan used to stay during his visits to London and only through this route, Radhakrishnan who was shunted off as ADGP, TNEB Vigilance has carefully escaped the axe. He was brought back as Civil Supplies CID's ADGP in a jiffy. How long Radhakrishnan's luck would continue with Amma is a million dollar question among those officers who were expecting that their services would be utilized for effective policing in the State following the exit of MM cartel.

2011: A year of turbulence.

2011 for TN Police

It has been a year of topsy-turvy for the Tamil Nadu police.   The police administration saw drastic changes following the results of the elections. Many officers of the top brass who wielded enormous clout during the DMK tenure and flying high were thrown off to insignificant posts.   Many who were sidelined by the DMK regime were brought back to limelight.
Though the Tamil Nadu police force was formally headed by K.P.Jain followed by Letikha Saran in the DMK regime, it was M.S.Jaffer Sait, who unofficially called the shots, till the election results... Jaffer Sait acted as a King and behaved like an emperor is the buzz in Police department. Jaffer remained as the eyes and years of the former chief minister Karunanidhi, perhaps many in the DMK say that was Karunanidhi's biggest mistake.

Jaffer Sait
Those who chose to rub Jaffer Sait on the wrong side were not only cut down to size, but also decimated. A mere mention of the name of Jaffer alone sent shivers down the spine of many officers within the department.   Only a few chose to take on Jaffer and those who chose to take him headon were shown the true meaning of hell, and even their friends were not spared.   A.K.Viswanathan, a one time friend and close ally of Jaffer chose to cross swords with him during his stint as DIG Intelligence.

A.K.Viswanathan
He was not only shifted out of Intelligence but was forced to face a vigilance enquiry for disproportionate assets. To decimate Viswanathan and to show who is the King, Jaffer went to the extent of planning the arrest of Viswanathan by using his clout at all levels in the administration, which was scuttled at the final moment.

Jaffer Sait IPS, kept the former Chief Minister as a string puppet who would dance to his tunes. This was because he delivered everything that Karunanidhi wanted. But very soon this became the waterloo of Karunanidhi who believed a cop instead of his political instincts on the assessment of elections.

The post election scenario witnessed the downfall of Jaffer Sait. The year 2011 was a year which would be etched in Jaffer’s memory as the worst year in his career.  The year 2011 saw him transferred to a post of Sub-Inspector at Special Camp for Refugees at Mandapam, Ramanathapuram.  To add insult to the injury, he was placed under suspension on a complaint of a rogue suspended employee of DVAC for illegally obtaining a house site.

When it was elections, the demand of all political parties was to transfer the deadly trio Letikha Saran, Jaffer Sait and Jangid. The EC gave them options based on which Letikha Saran and Jaffer Sait proceeded on leave. Jangid who was posted to an unheard post – Police Recruitment School meekly joined and commenced his back-door manoeuvrings with unfruitful results.    The new AIADMK government was also not kindly to the dirty trio.

Jangid
While Jaffer Sait was placed under suspension, Saran was packed off to insignificant post.   But Jangid being known for his patronage of violence against AIADMK men in 2006 local body elections, was posted to Nagercoil, the southern end of India.  However, sources tell whispers that Jangid is sending feelers to Cho Ramaswamy who is considered as close to Jangid for bringing him back to Chennai to a powerful post.

Bhola Nath
The Election Commission’s drastic actions also made Bhola Nath as the top cop of the state.

But Bhola Nath’s efforts to continue as the top cop in the present government too, did not yield the desired results and he was pushed of to Fire Service and his desire to become the DGP is still raging inside him like  a wild fire.

Sivanandi another cop whose fortunes rose in the previous DMK regime following a patch-up with Alagiri was nursing his dreams of making a come back  with the powerful lobby of the MM cartel.  But Amma shattered his dreams and placed him under suspension.

J.K.Tripathy
S.George,IPS who was languishing in the present place of Jangid was brought to the helm of affairs next to the top cop as Addl. DGP L&O and entrusted with the all important ‘land grab wing’.  Similarly Tripathy, who too was kept away in the DMK regime was rewarded with the most coveted post – Chennai City Commissioner – not only due to his good impression with Amma but also due to his liaison with MM cartel. Despite, that the north indian lobby is protecting JKT.

T.Rajendran
Another person who had butter on both sides of the bread was T.Rajendran.  He was the Addl. DGP L&O and then the Chennai City Commissioner and a trusted lieutenant of Jaffer Sait. Due to his strong connection with the MM cartel his fortune graph which hit a bottom following the swearing in of the new government rose vertically.  He was brought back from the insignificant prison department to the all important intelligence wing.  But Amma’s operation ‘Mannargudi Mafia’ commenced with an axe on his head.

The year 2011 saw fortunes tumbling for senior cops, Archana Ramasundaram, Gandhirajan, Thukkiandi, Sunil Kumar, Shakeel Akthar, Pramod Kumar, Shankar Jiwal, M.Ravi, S.S.Krishnamoorthy, and Ravikumar.  But even after the change of regime a few cops who managed to be on cloud nine are K.Radhakrishnan, Thamaraikannan and Sanjay Arora.
K.Ramanujam
2011 also saw the elevation of the top cop K.Ramanujam as an all important person in the state administration.  Ramanujam gained the number two spot in Amma’s trusted list next to the Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi.    Ramanujam was entrusted with both law and order and the all important intelligence wing and by the year end was tipped to be played a crucial role in the elimination of the MM cartel.

According to whispers in khaki circles, the beginning of the year 2012 will see some more big shuffles in the police brass after which some stability is expected.

2011 for AIADMK

2011 has been a year of Ups and Downs for Amma...when the year began the future of AIADMK was gloomy, the party was in the midst of severe crisis with continuous electoral debacles...Jayalilatha's lackadaisical attitude in taking on the then DMK government despite numerous opportunities to attack them and the party being a voiceless opposition in the State raised several questions in the minds of people.

But Jayalilatha bounced back with a bang, her massive public rallies and huge turnout of people in various districts of Tamil Nadu sent shivers down the spine for the DMK patriarch.. As usual the then intelligence officials loyal to Gopalapuram were trying to manipulate the numbers, but an old fox in TN politics Karunanidhi, was quick to dismiss their reports. At that time the buzz in the Khakhi circles was that of a senior IPS official getting snubbed by Karunanidhi.

The reason for such huge turn out was nothing but the anti-incumbency factor against the DMK and the rampant corruption at all levels including the great 2G robbery. Jayalilatha was keen of building the momentum as elections were approaching faster. Armed with the issue of "Corruption" a confident Jayalilata went to the polls.

Though Jaya enjoyed huge support from all quarters...her last minute goof up of releasing candidates list while talks were underway with alliance partners once again raised the many eyebrows...many came to a conclusion that she will never change...despite that she swept the polls..thanks to the 2G sins committed by the DMK's blue eyed boy A Raja and Co. After sweeping the polls it was quite visible that Amma wanted to deliver a good governance...but her close aide Sasikala and her coterie were keen on digging her grave, that too sitting inside Jaya's Poes Garden residence. The first 7 months of Jayalilatha government was marred with allegations of rampant corruption. All branches of Sasikala's family were on a collection spree and unlike the DMK, corruption was centralized and the magic word was "Chinnamma" or CM 2.

Also Jayalilathaa's infamous disproportionate assets case was once again back to haunt her... In spite of strenuous efforts by Jayalalitha to avoid making personal appearance in the Bengaluru Special Court – by filing a string of petitions in the Supreme Court – the courts forced her to eat humble pie and face the barrage of questions posed by Special Court Judge Mallikarjunaiah.

With keeping the result of the assets case in mind, a serious conspiracy was hatched against Jayalilathaa to finish her politically... to takeover the reins of power. But Jaya was tipped off at the right time and then the fortunes of Mannargudi Mafia came to an end. The year 2011 came to an end on a stormy note for the AIADMK, as Jaya hit the last nail in Mannargudi Mafia's coffin. The year has ended for her on a successful note...

Whether Jayalalitha would keep up the good momentum remains to be seen in 2012.

DMK : Blow after blow.

It was blow after blow for the DMK in the year 2011.   The year has been a disastrous year for the grand old political party of Tamil Nadu.   The DMK which has been defending its Propaganda Secretary A.Raja in the 2G scam, witnessed in horror when Raja was arrested in February 2011.   Karunanidhi who was defending A.Raja as a Dalit icon and a voice of the downtrodden was fumbling for words when Raja was taken into custody.   A silent DMK obtained a letter of resignation from Raja from the party post and announced it in the General Council.    In the same month the offices of Kalaignar TV and the residence of Sharath Kumar were raided by the CBI much to the embarrassment of Karunanidhi.

Praveen Kumar
DMK’s game plan to bribe and win the election was spoiled by an alert Election Commission – Thanks to the proactive actions of Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar and his team.   Even during the early part of the year news started trickling out about the involvement of Kanimozhi in the 2G scam which worried the DMK patriarch.    The alliance negotiations between the Congress and the DMK hit bottom when the national party demanded a lion’s share – 63 seats for the Assembly elections.    Sources said only the 2G case against Kanimozhi and the promise of Congress to save her from the clutches of law ensured an uncomfortable alliance between the two parties which forced Karunanidhi to settle for the same 63 seats.   However Kanimozhi was arrested in the month of May and the Congress washed off its hands citing Supreme Court monitoring of the 2G case.

The election results shattered the DMK which was relegated to third position next to Captain’s DMDK.   The umbrella alliance formed by AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha romped home to victory with an overwhelming majority thrashing its arch rival DMK. People voted with a vehemence to oust out the DMK government which was marred by scandal after scandal.

People’s palpable anger on the family rule had its impact on the polls.  In fact many DMK heavy weights lost the polls and the DMK’s heir apparent M.K.Stalin swam through with a wafer thin margin.

The swearing in of the new government saw many of the DMK bigwigs cool their heels in various prisons across the State.
While some were raided for possession of disproportionate assets, many were picked up in land grab cases.  Many of the DMK heavyweights were seen running for cover due to the onslaught of Amma.   The same police which was hitherto serving the DMK leaders at their beck and call, came calling in the early hours to send them to prison.

The DMK strong man M.K.Alagiri saw his fort crumbling in the wake of crack down by Amma.   Alagiri’s henchmen Pottu Suresh, Thalapathi and various others were booked and taken to custody in various charges ranging from land grab to murder.   Alagiri who flexed his muscles during the entire DMK’s rule was found hiding into a shell not even coming out to campaign in the local body elections.  The news about Alagiri’s wife too being booked for land grab exposed the true caliber of DMK’s Anja Nenjan.  Alagiri was found making a whirlwind tour of prisons across the state to meet his supporters.

The other power Center apart from the first family of the DMK, the KD brothers’ empire also was shaken up following the continuous expose by the media of their involvement in the 2G scam.  Dayanithi Maran who made desperate last ditch efforts to save his skin was also shown the door and forced to resign his Minister post.  In October the mighty Marans’ empire was raided by the CBI following a delayed registration of FIR in the 2G scam.   In regard to the Marans, the CBI finally woke up from its ‘Rip Wan Winkle’ sleep and was forced to act only due to the active monitoring of the Supreme Court.    Following Dayanithi Maran’s resignation from the cabinet, he was sidelined in the party too.   Party seniors and Karuna’s family members who were resenting the Marans’ clout in the party watched in glee when their house were raided.

The sibling rivalry too haunted the DMK with now Kanimozhi now jumping in the fray along with her brothers Stalin and Alagiri.

In the year end, the DMK was similar to Pondicherry which is in shambles following the storm ‘Thane’.
