Cabinet reshuffle on cards!!

Well it’s once again time to see some new faces in Amma’s cabinet…this time Chief Minister J Jayalilathaa has decided to drop at least 6 of her ministers due to lack of performance and on various charges. This will be done based on the Intelligence inputs submitted by the State Police…Immediately after assuming charge as Chief Minister Jayalilathaa had asked intelligence officials to form a team to track the activities of each minister. Last time Esakki  Subbaiah was axed based on complaints and a state intelligence report about his links with some DMK functionaries and charges that he had helped them bag some contracts. Besides, there were also allegations about his involvement in land grabbing. Also some of AIADMK district secretaries have also come under scanner due to the infighting within the party during the local body elections…that resulted in rebel candidates filing individual nominations…sources say several complaints have also been received on that front as well.

“Babus” to be shunted out!!

After cracking the whip on party men…Sources say Jaya’s focus will be on the government machinery…even though the AIADMK has witnessed a thumping victory in the just concluded local body elections…it was the anger against the DMK that had played a major role in these elections too…From power cuts to law and order situation in the State still remains a matter of concern for the people…and some of the populist schemes that were launched by Chief Minister J Jayalilathaa are yet to see the light of the day...Whispers doing rounds in Fort St George is that Chief Minister Jayalilathaa will be reviewing the performances of Babus too and is all set to crack the whip.  Sources say Amma is contemplating large scale transfers in the IAS and IPS cadre in the state.

Its movie time folks.....

Well, it’s that time of the year…when local Assistant Commissioners, Inspectors, Sub- Inspectors and Constables are bracing themselves for a ticket collection spree…its Diwali…and time for some new releases. This time there is a huge demand for tickets as movies like SRK’s Ra.One, Surya’s Ezham Arivu and Vijay’s Velayadum is all set to hit the silver screens. IAS and IPS officials have been directly contacting theater owners for tickets…and perhaps it has become as an unwritten rule for the Assistant Commissioners and Inspectors to arrange tickets for their senior officers. Now local police officers are visibly seen entering theaters in their jurisdiction for advance bookings…in one of the multiplex in the city a police inspector has demanded at least 10 tickets for each show (Compulsory) for him so that it can be given to senior officials or their family members. As usual theaters owners are completely annoyed by such demands and are avoiding phone calls from unknown numbers, fearing that it could be an IAS or an IPS officer.

Jaya’s complaint rattles Assembly speaker

Chief Minister J Jayalilathaa who preferred Fort St George as her office…has complained about the maintenance of the building…in a note that was sent to the Assembly speaker D Jayakumar…Chief Minister has complained that the corridors of power bears an ugly look…with electricity wires hanging overhead posing danger. This complaint by the Chief Minister seems to have rattled the Assembly speaker who is seen inspecting the corridors of Fort St George…and right now the Speakers focus is on getting things done for Amma.

Udhayanidhi Stalin makes a windfall

Red Giant pictures’ 7am Arivu has made a whopping profit of 15 crores even before it has hit the screen says industry sources.   With AR.Murugadoss being the director his bankable credibility has boosted the movies sales.  With Vijay’s ‘Velayutham’ hitting the silver screens the political tug of war has entered the silver screen too say sources. Vijay appearing to be Amma’s supporter sand Udhayanidhi Stalin being the producer of ‘7am Arivu’ political war has entered the silver screen too.

Rift in Tamil Nadu’s Intelligence Wing?

October 30.   It’s a time bomb that is ticking as far as the Tamil Nadu police is concerned.   October 30 is the birth anniversary of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar.  Muthuramalinga Thevar, who is seen as a community leader of the powerful Mukkulathor community particularly in Southern Tamil Nadu…

October 30, is celebrated by the Mukkulathor community people   as ‘Thevar Guru Poojai’… this grand pooja attracts political leaders cutting across party lines and people belonging to that community use to pay their tributes to Muthuramalinga Thevar.  But, this year’s Thevar Jayanthi is eye-catching because of the police firing in Paramakudi which claimed the lives of 6 people belonging to the Dalit community…this was during a similar gala event organized by the Dalit Community to pay tribute to their icon Immanuvel sekaran…

Retd Justice Sampath Commission
Jayalalitha  was made to believe by the former ADGP intelligence T Rajenderan that the Paramakudi firing incident would fizzle out after announcement of a judicial commission…but this seems to have crestfallen… till now there is visible anger among the people in the area the issue is pretty much alive…with simmering tension ahead of “Guru Pooja” the state police is having nightmares.   In fact, the ADMK which was able to sweep the local body elections ate humble pie in all the three Town Panchayats. In Abhiramam Town Panchayat DMK’s candidate Mohammed Abubakker won, Mudhukulathur Town Panchayat romped home DMK’s Sasivarnam to victory.   In Sayalgudi an independent Rajalakshmi won.
DGP Ramanujam
Sources in intelligence informed Whispers in Tamil Nadu that State’s intelligence chief and DGP K.Ramanujam has made it categorical that Chief Minister should not attend Thevar Guru Pooja as it could trigger more animosity between both the communities.  A detailed report in this regard has already been sent by Ramanujam, say insiders.

However, the No: 2 in the intelligence department DIG Pon. Manickavel…is seen adopting a different strategy…Apart from regular security deployment of 5000 security personnel and adequate intelligence officers …. DIG Pon. Manickavel has ordered to intensify intelligence operations further... to ensure that everything is under control.

Sources say DIG Pon.Manickavel has issued instructions to shift a part of the intelligence team in Chennai to Ramanathapuram district to gauge the mood of the people ahead of the grand event. Whispers doing rounds in the Khakhi department is that this could be an attempt to convince Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha that law and order situation is under control and she can visit Ramanathapuram on Guru Pooja.   The officers in the cadre of DSP, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors who had been planning for a fantastic Diwali this year are fuming over DIG Pon.Manickavel’s decision.

DIG Pon.Manickavel
Ironically sources say DGP Ramanujam has made it clear that if Jayalalitha visits Ramanathapuram on October 30, it would be a political suicide and also would completely alienate Dalits. Ramanujam also personally feels that it would also trigger yet another round of a law and order situation in the state and could make Jaya unpopular among the people… due to this constant unrest in Southern parts of the State.

Whispers doing rounds in the Khaki department is that whether DGP intelligence is aware of this PLAN B?? Is this move approved by the DGP? Obviously, K.Ramanujam, being an officer thorough in intelligence would naturally come to know such moves…but many say this difference of opinion would ultimately lead to a rift.

Meanwhile, the DMK is waiting to capitalize in a big way… if Jayalalitha decides to participate in Thevar Guru Pooja.   DMK had instructed its ground cadres to be in touch with Dalit organizations…so that they can as the Dalit organization to effectively campaign against Jayalalitha’s and label her as Anti-dalit. Sources say VCK Chief Thirumavalavan, Pudhiya Tamilagam Chief Dr. Krishnaswamy and others are also closely monitoring the developments and are expected to be vociferous in their opposition if Jaya plans to participate in the Guru Pooja…as the situation is explosive at the ground level.

Participating in the Guru Pooja or not is a close call for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha given the wobbly situation both politically and communally.    If she chooses to participate, she would alienate the Dalit vote which forms the core vote bank of AIADMK.  If she chooses to ignore the Guru Pooja, this would hurt her close friend Sasikala and the powerful Mukkulathor community. Insiders say with intelligence chief K.Ramanujam taking a different stand and his second in command taking another view, would result in a rift within the intelligence wing…and this could only mean catastrophe in the State.

Paramakudi riots
But Jayalalitha, being a shrewd politician she would spring a surprise say AIADMK sources…for the moment… will she or won’t she? Is something that is being hotly debated in political and bureaucratic circles!!!

Will Kani get bail ?

It was blow after blow for the DMK patriach. Karuna who was expecting some solace from the local body elections received a severe blow as the results showed the grand old party of Tamil Nadu being trounced by its arch rival ADMK yet again.

But when news about adding 409 section against Kanimozhi reached CIT colony, Rasathi Ammal nudged Karuna to leave for Delhi at any cost and do something to save her daughter…Karuna who left for Delhi, met everyone possible pleading for Kani’s bail…He met Law Minister Salman Khurshid, Home Minister P Chidambaram before meeting Sonia Gandhi…

High drama unfolded at the Hotel just hours before meeting Sonia Gandhi…the reason was the latest accused in the 2G loot…Dayanidhi Maran wanted to be a part of “Team Karuna” during Sonia’s meeting…when this was proposed…a furious Rasaathi Ammal immediately snubbed Dayanidhi Maran and asked him to stay away. But a desperate Dayanidhi Maran wanted to enter Sonia Gandhi’s residence along with Karunanidhi at any cost…but his attempts failed.

Inside Sonia’s residence after initial formalities, Rasaathi ammal opened the topic of Kanimozhi’s bail and spoke in tamil…which was translated by T R Baalu…Sources say Rasaathi ammal was literally in tears and pleaded with folded hands with Sonia. Sonia who was uncomfortable with the soap opera told Karuna that the entire trial and other proceedings are being monitored by the Supreme Court and she would not be in a position to do anything. Sources also says Sonia Gandhi was very unhappy with Karunanidhi’s decision to go it alone in the local body polls…for which Karunanidhi explained that the reason was because of the 2G scam as the issue has completely branded the DMK as corrupt.

“Save Kanimozhi” was the single point agenda during Karuna’s meet with Sonia, officially it was informed by DMK people that Karunanidhi had called on Sonia to enquire about her health and see the progress of her convalescing. Outside Sonia’s residence Karuna’s grand nephew Dayanidhi Maran was fuming and informed his brother Kalanidhi Maran and Selvi about the humiliation he suffered at the hands of Raasathi Ammal. Sources say Karunanidhi did not even utter a single word on Maran’s during his meeting with Sonia.

After meeting Sonia, a highly disturbed Karuna frustrated about not able to do anything came to the Patiala House court and encircled it for five minutes and retired to his room. In his room Karuna became glued to the television set mainly watching English channels.

An initial report in the national media was that Kanimozhi was charged with 409 IPC. A perturbed Karuna, immediately rang up the lawyers and TKS.Elangovan who were in the Patiala House court to check out who in turn informed Karuna that Kani was charged for criminal conspiracy to aide a public servant committing breach of trust.

This information was of little comfort to Karuna, as his wife no.3 was furious with him for not doing anything even after meeting Sonia Gandhi and unable to bear her nagging, Karuna lost his cool and shouted at her say sources.

Karuna in the evening met Kanimozhi at Tihar Jail and the meeting was brief say sources. Karuna was at loss of words to offer any hope to Kanimozhi who was highly emotional and depressed following the developments in the courts. T R Baalu and his secretary Shanmuganathan were asked to wait outside for some time and it was an emotional moment for Karunanidhi as he spent some time alone with his daughter Kanimozhi and Raasathi Ammal.

Karuna who met Sharad Kumar also met A Raja at Tihar Jail for a few minutes. Karuna who was hitherto defending A.Raja, calling him a Dalit icon is now furious over Raja’s game plan for the 2G trial. Karuna believes that A.Raja is using his daughter Kanimozhi as a shield to protect him in the 2G case. Kanimozhi is slapped with 409 IPC only because of Raja arguments of dragging PM and Chidambaram into the 2G mess, feels Karuna and Raasathi Ammal.

Later in the day Karuna met Manmohan Singh and was in tears about the fate of his daughter Kanimozhi, say sources. Even Manmohan Singh was non-committal about the bail…citing the matter is being monitored by the Supreme Court.

But, sources indicate whispers that Karuna was informed through intelligence sources that Kanimozhi is likely to get bail on Monday. A hopeful Karuna has decided to stay back in Delhi till tomorrow. In the meanwhile, a fresh round of family infighting has begun…after Karuna dumped Dayanidhi Maran.

Legal experts have boosted Karuna’s confidence citing Section 437 of Cr.P.C. which shows concessions for a woman accused to be let off on bail.  But the DMK chief and the first family are scarred about A.Raja, suspecting whether he would play spoilsport and are waiting with tense moments for dawn.

Success is not so sweet!!!

AIADMK has swept the local body elections which could either be seen as an endorsement for the ADMK government or people’s continuous anger against the DMK regime.

But the success is not so sweet for J.Jayalalitha, ADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister who had returned after a marathon questioning by the Special Court in Bengaluru.   A battered Jayalalitha refused to receive the flower bouquets given by AIADMK cadres in Bengaluru by local party men. When she landed in Chennai  Amma received the bouquet only from Saidai Duraisamy at Chennai Airport, who has won the Chennai Mayorship with a record margin.

ADMK candidates who had romped home to victory in the local body election were seen in huge numbers in front of the poes garden…dancing and bursting crackers to celebrate their victory…many candidates who won the elections were eagerly waiting to catch a glimps of their leader and to welcome her with bouquets.  But an exhausted Jayalalitha called it a day and asked the bouquets to be received and kept in the Poes garden. Well, for the moment it appeared that “Garden” was not the right place bouquets…!!!

AIADMK’s victory in the local body election is significant since it has gone to the polls without the help of any allies and credit goes to every vote polled in favour of ADMK.   But the significant success has not cheered up Amma, whose past is haunting in the form of disproportionate asset case.    The nightmare for Amma doesn’t appear to end any time soon in the wake of the Special Court Judge Mallikarjunaiah summoning her to be present on the 8th of November to continue the proceedings.     Jayalalitha’s counsel’s saber rattling that they would approach the Supreme Court seeking exemption for appearance on 8th November appears to be an empty threat.    The apex court is not likely to grant any relief to Jayalalitha as it has thrown out many such petitions in the past…that forced her into the Court room.

Sources say the DVAC officials and Jayalalitha’s counsel B.Kumar along with the Advocate General Navaneetha Krishnan and Public Prosecutor I.Subramaniam were huddled in conversation on their arrival.  The meeting of these officials is likely to continue tomorrow also, say sources.   The ‘Team Jayalalitha’ is desperate to find a solution for the assets case to see cheers in the face of Amma.   Insiders say both Jayalalitha’s counsel and DVAC officials were perturbed over the way Amma was treated by the Special Judge Mallikarjunaiah.   The Special Judge who was treated with little respect till now by Jayalalitha, her counsel and DVAC officials were found seeing him looking up at him in astonishment and awe and respect.

B.V.Acharya, who was at the receiving end till now, was also seen commanding tremendous respect in the court.    The ‘Team Jayalalitha’ was clear in its understanding that any wrong move by either the DVAC officials or by Jayalalitha’s counsel would land Amma in further trouble.

With Jayalalitha getting a breather till 8th November, the ‘Team Jayalalitha’ is fumbling for any loopholes to get some sort of relief for her.   But the reality is otherwise.  Jayalalitha’s reluctance to take a strong stand disassociating herself from her close aide and companion Sasikala, appears to be proving very costly for her, both legally and politically.

While the complainant in Jaya's DA case...Subramaniam Swamy and her bitter rival - the DMK are closely watching all the developments in Jaya's disproportionate assets case... and chalking out their next strategy to keep up the momentum that has given them some space to gain political mileage amid all the trouble the party is facing today.

Is it end of road for Amma ?

With disproportionate assets case trial reaching a crucial stage in Bengaluru, it appears that amma is running out of options.  After trying out all legal ways Jayalalitha was not able to avoid her personal appearance which she feels as a major embarrassment.   Jayalalitha’s position as Chief Minister of a state was not able to prevent her from appearing in the court and answer the barrage of questions  posed to her by the Trial Judge Mallikarjuniah.
Section 313 makes it mandatory in a trial for an accused to explain any circumstances on the evidence against him.   The next stage of after questioning under 313 Cr.P.C. is examination of defence witnesses.   The possibility of Jayalalitha to prolong the trial under the guise of examining numerous witnesses is limited in cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act.   Further in disproportionate assets cases the burden of proof of proving the sources which are considered to be ‘known sources of income’ through which the assets are acquired, is on the accused.   So Jayallitha doesn’t have the luxury of summoning numerous witnesses.

Another possibility is for Jayalalitha to seek re-examination of the Investigating Officer and based on his testimony recall the prosecution witnesses under section 243 Cr.P.C.  But this loophole is completely plugged due to the rigging of trial by Jayalalitha during her 2001-2006 tenure.

When Jayalalitha was Chief Minister in 2002 a total of 74 prosecution witnesses who had already deposed and cross examined on behalf of Jayalalitha were recalled and re-examined.  Of the 74 witnesses 64 witnesses retracted their earlier deposition and gave a complete contrary statement.  The then public prosecutor had chosen not to object to the witnesses giving contrary statement or made any attempt to declare them as hostile.  Only at this point DMK general secretary K.Anbalagan moved the Supreme Court and got the trial transferred to Bengaluru.

After the trial was transferred to Bengaluru the 64 witnesses who turned hostile were again examined by the Bengaluru Special Court and they had deposed that they were threatened by DVAC officials to go back on their statement.  Evidences of these witnesses would definitely weigh against Jayalalitha and would curtail her chances of re-calling prosecution witnesses given the fact that she has become the Chief Minister again.

A Division Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices S.N.Variava and H.K.Sema observed in the judgment “On a question from Court we were informed that the witnesses were recalled as Senior counsel for the second Respondent had been busy attending to some other case filed against her when they were first examined.  This could hardly have been a ground for recall of witnesses. The fact that the public prosecutor now appointed did not object to such an application itself suggests that free and fair trial is not going on.  It appears that process of justice is being subverted.  This gets reinforced  by the fact that even when witness after witness has resiled from what they had stated in the evidence in chief, yet no steps have been taken by the public prosecutor to resort to Section 154 of the Indian Evidence Act.”

This would be cited by the court appointed public prosecutor B.V.Acharya to thwart any attempt by the defence to re-call witnesses who had been examined in chief and cross already.

Even if the court permits recalling of witnesses the chances of their deposing in favour of Jayalalitha retracting their earlier statement is very bleak as the Supreme Court on Anbalagan’s petition has empowered the public prosecutor to take action for perjury against the witnesses.  The Court had said “ The public prosecutor will also be at liberty to apply that action in perjury to be taken against some or all such witnesses.  Any such application/s will be undoubtedly considered on its merit/s.”

Further Jayalalitha had rubbed the Public Prosecutor B.V.Acharya on the wrong side by asking a Deputy Superintendent of Police to address the Special Court Judge, directly over ruling B.V.Acharya seeking orders for further investigation.  B.V.Acharya and the trial judge took serious exemption to this and the DSP had to tender an unconditional apology.

Seeking adjournments under one pretext or other may also be a remote chance as the apex court had directed that the trial should be conducted on a day to day basis.  Citing the long pendency of the case from 1997, the court said “As the matter is pending since 1997 the State of Karnataka shall appoint Special Judge within a month from the date of receipt of this Order and the trial before the Special Judge shall commence as soon as possible and will then proceed  from day to day till  completion.”  The Special Judge has to bear in mind these directions of the  Supreme Court before granting any adjournments.

Any help from the Karnataka government’s side is also doubtful based on the turn of events .  Thousands of AIADMK cadres who were visiting Bengaluru to cheer Amma were stopped at Karnataka border by the police and turned away.  In fact Bengaluru police went to the extent of searching passenger buses and throw people who are wearing a dhoti with ADMK colours.

With all the holes being plugged and the noose getting tightened it appears that Amma has been pushed into a corner.   Whether she would be able to bounce back is a million dollar question...

Tense moments at poes garden

It was a nerve racking morning for everyone at Jaya’s official residence Veda Nilyam at Poes Garden. Be it the Chief Secretary or the Advocate General or Intelligence Chief or any of Jayalalitha’s ministerial colleagues.   Right after the Supreme Court dismissed Jaya’s petition to defer her personal appearance it became clear that Amma has to face the inevitable…since then tense moments prevailed inside Amma’s residence.

Sources tell whispers in tamil nadu…legal experts and advocates were called in to discuss what can be done next…till late night yesterday Jayalalitha was reluctant to appear in court.  But officials and advocates had instilled the truth that it is inevitable and there is no other option left but to appear before the Special Court as ordered by the Apex court…after hectic deliberations and reluctance finally Amma agreed.

Early in the morning Tamil Nadu Chief Minister went through all the newspapers of the day to get an idea how the reportage will be…  Officials had already assured her that the focus of national TV will not be on her as there are many other events lined up in Bengaluru like the inauguration of ‘Namma Metro’ train services and Yedyurappa’s bail plea.

Jayalalitha’s convoy left poes garden sharp at 8.30  this morning.   Journalists and camerapersons who are usually allowed till the gates of Vedha Nilayam were stopped faraway much to their surprise.  Amma’s cronies believed cameras jostling for space to cover amma’s distressing visit to Bengaluru would annoy her.    Sources say Sasikala’s relatives who came to Vedha Nilayam to give amma a word of comfort were turned away.

It was an early day for top officials of Tamil Nadu government.   Everybody bee lined to poes garden with tense faces.   While top officials accompanied amma till airport while other senior officials and ministers in Jaya’s cabinet were asked not to venture anywhere near poes garden. Almost all the ministers were waiting at the airport keeping their fingers crossed. This time, the usual cheers and bouquets were missing.   Tension was palpable in the air.

As Amma’s convoy left for Bengaluru in a gloomy mood, opposite to poes garden in a short distance it was celebration time for Jayalalitha’s bête noire Karunanidhi.   Once news reached Karunanidhi about Jayalalitha’s movement, Karuna’s mood turned jubilant say insiders in the DMK.  Ignoring the drubbing of DMK’s candidate in the Trichy bye-election Karuna was seen smiling and cracking jokes and was waiting for television crews approaching him for a sound bite.   A gleeful Karunanidhi commented  “Jayalalitha has finally bowed to justice. I will not seek her resignation.  It is her habit.”

Jaya arrived at Bengaluru and from the HAL airport left for Parappana Agrahara where her former Karnataka counterpart is cooling his heels.   Parappana Agrahara is the Central Prison of Bengaluru where the Special Court is situated.

The Bengaluru police is not taking any chances given the attention this case has got from the Supreme Court.  The entire route from HAL airport to the Central Prison was completely sanitised. Bengaluru police went to the extent of clamping 144 prohibitory orders around the court till the hearing is over. Around 1500 policemen were on duty to see that not a speck of dust touches Amma.

As whispers had told earlier, the DMK backed Sun TV and Kalaignar TV had a newsy day.   Sun TV had sent its OB vans to Airport and Bengaluru Special Court.  Kalaignar TV’s OB van which was lying idle since its inception was also in action in Bengaluru.

Special Judge B.M.Mallikarjuniah and Jayalalitha met eye to eye at 11 am inside the court hall which was turned into a fortress.   Except advocates who are connected with the case all others were barred entry.   The Judge had a long list of questions for Amma, sources say around 400.   The pre-lunch session saw little progress in completing the procedure and the session broke for lunch.  Jayalalitha who is under tremendous stress had vegetable sandwiches inside her SUV.

At the pace the questioning procedure is going on it appears that Amma's agony may continue tomorrow and Amma is likely to come back and fly back to  Bengaluru tomorrow.  And the tense situation will continue tomorrow as well.

All eyes on Bengaluru!

The entire DVAC top echelons are camping at Bengaluru to please Jayalilathaa…as she appears before a Special Court trying the disproportionate assets case against her.   Barring the DVAC Chief K.P.Maghendran, the entire DVAC top brass Inspector General of Police - AMS.Gunaseelan, Deputy Inspector of Police - G.Venkatraman, Superintendent of Police - TN.Venkateswaran and Deputy Superintendent of Police and Investigating Officer - G.Sambandham will be at Bengaluru biting their nails for Amma’s reaction, as she appears before the Special Court in Bengaluru for the first time since the case was transferred out of Tamil Nadu in 2003.

Sources say elaborate arrangements have been made to receive Amma and keep her in good humor. Sources inside Poes garden say that Jayalalitha is at the height of her perennial temper and had even went to the extent of refusing to appear before the Bengaluru Court.   But, people close to Jaya convinced her and made it a point that any failure to appear before the Bengaluru court would mean violation of undertaking before the Supreme Court and would result in severe backlash from the courts.

Whispers doing rounds in the “Khaki circles” is that the assets case is not only a nightmare for Jaya but for the entire team of officers working in DVAC.  Officers in DVAC wait with crossed fingers fearing sever backlash it things go against Jayalilathaa.   The nervousness is not only unique to officers in DVAC but to the entire top brass in the police and bureaucracy.   Sources say an element of uncertainty hangs above all officers…anyway it depends on Jaya’s mood for the moment.

DMK sources say it was Jayalilathaa who kept on dragging this case for the past 14 years citing various reasons…and now the case is at the point of no return. However, the DVAC officials have nothing much to do… as Jayalilathaa’s fate is now in jury’s hands. If at all her anger turns against the DVAC officials… the worst can happen is issue of transfer orders and officers will be posted in places considered to be worst in police or bureaucracy.   But, as she appears in the court the mood within the Khakhi department seems to be gloomy…and the jitters’ setting in Jaya’s top echelons of power is palpable.   As the great philosopher Heraclictus said, his words, ‘There is nothing permanent except change’ is fully applicable to Amma’s rule, given her track record.

Sources also add that most of the senior officials in the intelligence agency, including the DIG Intelligence Pon.Manickavel are camping in Bengaluru to ensure Jaya is in good humor…this is done under the guise of supervising the much hyped security arrangements.

Well…for the day the focus will now be on Jayalilathaa’s appearance in the court as the trial against her enters its crucial phase…and from now on the Countdown for Jayalilathaa begins…
